"I think I had hoped for a community like this for a number of years, but it was one of those internal, unspoken kinds of hopes. Not to get to emotional, but I don't think there are enough words to express what a joy this has been.  To have a community where people aren't shaming me for having curiosity or thinking too intellectually is unparalleled."

YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DO THIS ALONE!

Have you ever felt unwelcome or like you don't "fit in" with any faith community?  Perhaps no one in your life cares about the same questions you do — or worse, they judge you for asking them.  No one should have to wrestle with these questions alone.  Join BSA today and find your people.

Newly added & UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS

Join us for a live community discussion about this month's community book club pick, "Marcion" by M. David Litwa.

BSA trivia is back to correct the myths, misquotes, and misunderstandings about the Bible! Test your knowledge with this month’s theme "The Bible Doesn’t Say That!" in a fun, friendly competition with prizes - including signed books from Bart

We spend a lot of time trying to understand the ancient world, but what if we flipped the script? If an ancient Israelite, early Christian, or Second Temple scribe could see how we live, think, and read today, what would confuse them? What would shock them? This month, we're using our imaginations to look at ourselves through ancient eyes, and discovering what that mirror reveals.

a note from bart

When I started studying the Bible seriously in graduate school, I expected to find support for the views I learned from my fundamentalist professors at Moody Bible Institute.

I didn't. I found contradictions. I found different theologies in different books. I found historical claims that ran contrary to what we know from sources outside the Bible. I found that the
Bible is a very human book.

But here's what surprised me most: the more I learned, the more fascinated I became. The “problems” scholars have uncovered in the Bible actually help us understand it better. They don’t
destroy the meaning of the text; they open up a path to understanding the Bible for what it really says.

In particular, I came to realize that the Bible is not simply a single book with a single perspective, but many books with many perspectives, some of them at odds with each other, others
complementary to one another, all of them deserving to be heard.

When I first saw this, I realized that this way of reading the Bible allows us to appreciate the depth the Bible and to let each of the biblical authors speak for themselves.

Since then, I have spent forty years teaching and writing about what I have learned, and continue to learn. BSA is the place where I bring that lifetime of scholarship into a more focused, guided, and interactive setting — courses, debates, and monthly deep-dives, along with 50+ classes from other scholars who are among the most respected in the world.

If you've ever felt like there's more to the story, there is. Come find it.

— Bart Ehrman, BSA Founder

FAQ's

Membership & Billing

How much does BSA cost?

BSA is $49.95/month (or $295/year if you choose annual billing), but you can start with a 14-day free trial to check it out first. No risk, no obligation.

What happens after my free trial?

If you love BSA, do nothing—your payment method will be charged and your membership will continue. You can pause or cancel anytime by emailing us at [email protected] or at the "Manage Your BSA subscription" page.

Do you offer a money-back guarantee?

Absolutely. You start with a 14-day trial, then are charged for your first month (or year, if annual). If you don't love BSA, email us at [email protected] within 26 days of your first payment and we'll refund 100% of your investment. Between the trial and the money-back guarantee, you have 40 days to try BSA risk-free.

What payment types are accepted?

We accept Paypal and all major credit cards.

Can my membership dues increase?

They can, although we have no plans to raise rates in the near future. We launched in Sept. 2024 and may raise rates every couple of years, Netflix-style — so you may see a modest increase down the road. We'd always give written notice first.

Can I use a discount code with BSA?

Unfortunately, our system does not allow us to offer discounts.

How do I cancel a free trial to BSA or active membership?

You can pause or cancel anytime by emailing us at [email protected] or at the "Manage Your BSA subscription" page.

What's the fine print?

As an active member you get access to the community, BSA exclusive events, all the perks listed above, and our catalog of every course we've created, plus any we create while you're a member. Not included are our annual conferences (New Insights Into the New Testament, New Insights into the Hebrew Bible, the Biblical Studies Symposium), Bart's books, his trips/cruises, and his speaking/consulting services.

Your subscription works like Netflix — you have access to everything in BSA as long as you're an active subscriber. If you pause or cancel, you lose access unless you purchased the standalone version of a course.

Courses & Events

How many courses are included?

There are 53+ courses in the vault — most ranging from 4 to 8 lessons, plus single-lecture courses and university-length courses (16–28 lectures). You also get Bart's monthly Spotlight Series webinar and other instructional events with scholars all included among a host of exclusive recordings.

Can I watch the courses on my own schedule?

Absolutely! All courses are available on-demand, and new content is added regularly. Watch them live, catch the replays later, or both!

Are there live classes?

Yes. We host 3 university-length courses per year (typically two live classes per week, run in winter, summer, and fall), plus many more smaller courses a year — all included in membership.

Are the courses beginner-friendly?

Yes. BSA is designed for everyone, whether you're a curious beginner or more advanced. We have a strict "no academic jargon" requirement — instructors must define any terms that aren't commonly known.

What's the difference between discussion groups and events?

Discussion groups (like a Facebook group, but far more active) are open 24/7 for posting, commenting, and direct messaging. Live events (mixers, AMAs, trivia nights) happen on Zoom and bring the community together in real time.

What if I can't attend all the events?

Between trivia, AMA's, community mixers, book club meetings, and more—we hold a LOT of monthly events.  But there's no obligation.  You can attend as many or as few events  as you'd like.  Or attend none and simply enjoy the course offerings!  We record all instructional events for playback later (Example: AMA's, Book Club, or Bart's Spotlight series) but don't record member mixers.

Do I lose access to the courses and event recordings if I cancel?

Yes — just like Netflix, access to courses and community features is tied to your active membership. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of your billing period. You're always welcome to rejoin, or purchase courses as standalone at bartehrman.com/courses — the equivalent of "owning the DVD.".

Technical & Accessibility

How do I sign up/ access the courses and events after I sign up?

You’ll receive an email with login details to Circle after signing up.  Circle is our course & community platform.  You can access BSA  on Circle anytime from your browser or mobile device.

What's the difference between BSA and ThriveCart?

BSA lets you stream all courses included in your membership while it's active — cancel and you lose access. ThriveCart is our standalone purchase platform: buying a course there gives you lifetime access, independent of BSA membership. Those courses are yours to keep forever.

Can I use BSA on my tablet or cell phone?

Yes, we use Zoom Webinar and Zoom Meeting software for events and live mixers which allows you to attend by desktop computer, tablet, or cell phone.

You can access courses in our Circle platform on your regular web browser (such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc) or on your table or cell phone.  Circle has an Android and iOS app!

What if I have technical issues?

We've got you covered. There are video tutorials when you sign up guiding you through the platform, a community manager and admins happy to take your questions, and famously helpful fellow members. You can always email [email protected] and we'll get you sorted ASAP.

Will subtitles/captions be available in events/courses?

We use Zoom for most of our community events.  Zoom has a variety of options for creating closed captioning in webinars or meetings you attend, which provides subtitles of the spoken in-meeting communications. This may be used for participants to easily follow the conversations or to meet accessibility requirements.

Circle is our course platform and offers transcripts of the course videos.

Do I need any special microphone or camera equipment?

If you plan to interact in live events, you will at least need a microphone on your desktop/tablet/moble device, and a camera is even better! If you just want to use BSA to watch courses and live recordings of courses without interacting, no microphone or camera is needed. For courses, the Zoom Webinar conference software only allows the presenters to speak. Attendees are hidden during the lecture recording so you don't need to worry about having a camera or being seen.
