
Contribute to Paths in Biblical Studies SHORT COURSES
Paths in Biblical Studies is currently accepting short course proposals from scholars interested in sharing their expertise with a large and engaged audience of lay learners. Courses are featured on both our standalone course platform and inside our membership community, the Biblical Studies Academy (BSA).
We're seeking 1-lecture and 4-lecture courses that are academically rich, yet accessible to general audiences.
What We're Looking For
We welcome proposals on a broad range of topics related to:
- The Bible (Hebrew Bible / Old Testament & New Testament)
- Greco-Roman world
- Ancient Judaism
- Apocryphal texts
- Historical Jesus
- Christian origins
- Archaeology of the Bible
Production Requirements
If selected, you'll be responsible for creating and delivering the full course content yourself. That includes:
Video & Audio
- Clear, high-quality video and audio required (we can help and loan equipment if needed)
- Well-lit, tidy home or office setting
- Quiet setting with no ambient noise
Slides
- Create slides for each lecture—PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides are all acceptable (we can assist with formatting if needed)
- Include licensed images with proper attribution
- Slides should enhance—not overwhelm—your presentation
We can help format your slides and loan any necessary equipment up front—just let us know what you need.
What You'll Submit
After approval, contributors must deliver:
- 1 or 4 recorded lectures
- Copy of your slides file
- One 10-question multiple choice quiz for a single-lecture course, two for a 4-lecture course
- A 300-word course overview
- A 100-word description for each lecture
Payment Options
You choose your level of ownership:
Option A: Full Rights Granted to Us
- You grant us full rights to market and sell the course.
- You receive:
- 50% of all direct sales of the course (i.e., for those who are not accessing it through our streaming service: the Biblical Studies Academy, BSA).
- Inclusion in the BSA instructor pool fund (Learn More)
- 25% of any additional income generated (e.g., audiobook, licensing)
Option B: You Retain Ownership
- You retain Intellectual Property (IP) and grant us a license to sell and promote your course.
- You receive:
- 30% of all direct sales of the course (i.e., for those who are not accessing it through our streaming service: the Biblical Studies Academy).
- $1 per hour viewed in BSA (paid quarterly)
NEXT STEPS
Step 1: Reply to Bart by email
Step 2: Submit your proposal (title, course type, and one-paragraph overview of what you have in mind for it)
Step 3: Bart will review and get back to you
Step 4: If approved, submit course outline and lecture description(s), and make equipment requests
Step 5: Record the course
Step 6: Send it in.
Step 7: We will review the course to ensure it is suitable in terms of content and audio/video quality. If there are problems, we will confer about how to proceed. If not, we will publish it on the site for sale and/or viewing by BSA members.
