Why Clean Water Matters

If you already have clean water, it’s hard to imagine how dire the global water crisis is. Think about how often you use water in a typical day—a morning shower, a refreshing drink, or making coffee.

Now imagine turning on the tap and finding only muddy water—or worse, nothing at all. For 703 million people, this isn’t imagination. It’s reality. Many walk for hours daily to collect dirty water in heavy Jerry Cans, often unsafe and carrying diseases. Hours wasted collecting water also prevents community members from going to school or helping their family.

Clean water changes everything.

At Bart Ehrman Courses, we believe clean water is a basic human right. That’s why we’ve committed to donating $1 for every course sold and $0.50 for every Biblical Studies Academy (BSA) renewal. Together, we can help bring clean, safe drinking water to communities in need.

MEET CHARITY: WATER

charity: water is a nonprofit organization on a mission to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. With a 100% donation model, they ensure every dollar goes directly to funding sustainable water projects.

Since 2006, charity: water has provided clean water to 19.1 million people through 171,000 water projects in 29 countries. They partner with local organizations to build and maintain these projects, empowering communities and creating long-term solutions.

A private group of philanthropists covers all charity: water's operating costs so that 100% of all public donations can directly fund clean water projects.

Just $1 provides 1,100 liters of clean water.

PLEDGE UPDATE

To date we have sent charity:water $20,000 ($10,000 in Sept 2025 and $10,000 in April 2026. We found out our donation will be used for a project in Tanzania and will take 12-18 months to complete (Coming Sept '26 to March '27). For transparency, we have provided details for all donations below since Dec. 2024 when our pledge began. We donate $0.50 per BSA renewal and $1 per course sold.

Breakdown of First $10,000 Donation

Our pledge to charity: water began in Dec. 2024. CW asked us to hold the funds until we reached $10,000, which is the amount needed to fund a single water project. For transparency, we kept track of all BSA renewals and courses sold and kept a running total of our amount pledged from Dec 2024 until we hit our first goal in Sept. 2025. We then sent our first wire to CW for $10,000.

After hitting our first $10k threshold in Sept 2025, we carried over $1,620 to our second round of donation. Again, CW asked us to hold the funds until we reached $10,000, which is the amount needed to fund a single water project. Again, we kept track of all BSA renewals and courses sold below from Sept 2025 until April 2026 when we reached our second $10,000 threshold and sent CW another wire for $10k.
