The Israelite Goddess Asherah

What if the Bible preserves traces of a goddess it later tried to erase? This course uncovers the forgotten story of Asherah, once worshiped alongside Yahweh, through archaeological evidence, ancient Near Eastern texts, and the Hebrew Bible itself. As her suppressed presence comes into view, we are invited to rethink the rise of monotheism and consider what the loss of the divine feminine reveals about power, patriarchy, and the shaping of religious tradition.

Jesus And the Old Testament

Jesus and the Old Testament examines how Jesus’ earliest followers reread Israel’s scriptures to understand his life, death, and resurrection. This course shows how New Testament authors, shaped by Jewish interpretive traditions, reimagined familiar texts and claimed the story of Israel as fulfilled in Jesus, offering readers new insight into how both Testaments came to be read together.

Everyday Life in Ancient Israel

What did everyday life look like in ancient Israel? In this four-part course, archaeologist and biblical scholar Dr. Cynthia Shafer-Elliott draws on decades of fieldwork to reconstruct how ordinary Israelites lived, worked, worshiped, and raised families. By bringing archaeology into conversation with the Bible, the course reveals the Old Testament as a lived world shaped by homes, food, faith, and daily labor, offering a richer context for reading Scripture today.

The History of Biblical Interpretation

The History of Biblical Interpretation traces how Christians have read and reinterpreted the Bible over two thousand years, from the New Testament era to the modern world. In this fast-paced course, Dr. Pete Enns shows how shifting historical, cultural, and theological contexts shaped the way Scripture was understood, inviting students to appreciate the Bible’s interpretive diversity and complexity rather than searching for a single timeless reading.

Digging Up Dirt On Joshua

Digging Up Dirt on Joshua: Historical Conquest or Fan Fiction examines one of the Bible’s most troubling and contested books through the lens of archaeology and critical scholarship. Drawing on material evidence from key sites and decades of fieldwork, Dr. Cynthia Shafer-Elliott explores what the archaeological record does and does not support about Joshua’s conquest narratives. The course invites learners to rethink history, theology, and ethics in the Book of Joshua, offering tools to engage its texts with greater honesty, nuance, and responsibility.

Banned Books: The Apocrypha Edition

Why do some ancient writings become Scripture while others are excluded? In this lecture, medievalist and apocrypha expert Dr. Brandon Hawk explores the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha to show how biblical canons took shape across different communities and traditions. By examining banned and forgotten texts alongside the books that made it into the Bible, the course reveals how theology, power, and history shaped what was preserved and what was left behind.

Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls

Immerse yourself in a journey through history with Dr. James D. Tabor. Discover the profound connections between the Dead Sea Scrolls and Jesus' teachings in this ten-part lecture series. The course includes live Q&A sessions, bonus content from Qumran, and supplementary materials to enhance your learning experience.

"This is my third course, and I can’t wait for more. These are informative and educational lectures providing insight into the Bible not opinions. Thank you." Michele Kemper

"Dr. Ehrman is most known as a New Testament scholar, but he's well-studied in the Old Testament as well. Anthony Dominello

is bart a christian?  does he try to persuade anyone away from their beliefs?

Bart is not a Christian but in no way tries to persuade anyone with religious belief to change their mind.  His goal is simply that people will have a better understanding of the Bible and Jesus through a historical scholarly approach.  Regardless of your beliefs, there are some things we can say about the historical Jesus just like we can about any historical figure such as Mohommad or Joseph Smith.  And you could embark on such a historical examination whether you believe these men were prophets or not!  Bart has a way of making the scriptures come alive regardless of your faith.  In fact, we have many Christian course buyers who have claimed that Bart's courses have strengthened their faith.
