Shaily Shashikant Patel is an historian of early Christianity who researches explores the various, often contradictory ways in which so-called magic was used to advance a number of theological ends in early Christian texts. She is the author of Magic and Heresy in Ancient Christian Literature (Cambridge, 2025) and Smoke & Mirrors: Discourses of Magic in Early Petrine Traditions (Oxford, 2025).
